I have an early 1960's Browning .22 take down rifle that is BNIB. Fully engraved - was their top of the line model at the time. Comes with original leather case.

I have never sold a vintage gun. Any ideas on a reputable place to consign this firearm?

Thanks....

What grade is it? Grade III Belgian SA-22’s are pretty desirable and sell around $4500 and up in 99% condition with the fitted case, it would have skip line checkering and a grayed receiver. It should have the engravers name marked, some are more valuable than others. Generally speaking consignments don’t bring as much money as an outright sale, I’d look to one of the online auction sites.

auction sites? Like eb*y? Or a firearms auction site?

yes...it’s grade III or IV

The engravers name is on both sides, and reads “Vrankel” who was their top engraver at the time

good to know if I can sell on eb*y. I’m a top rated seller but was unaware you can sell a firearms there

thank you

You Can Not sell complete firearms on EBay. Look at gunbroker.com

Gotcha

yeah I thought about Gunbroker but I’ve never sold a firearm on there so I Have no feedback. My concern is that it might not sell if my feedback is zero

Belgian SA-22’s were offered in three grades I, II, III. Japanese were Grade I, II, III, VI, and the 100th Anniversary. Vranken, Funken, and Watrin were three excellent master engravers used in the 60’s. Each has a different style.

Angelo Bee is my favorite for Superposed Diana grades. It’s all subjective.

Gotcha

thank you for the help

It’s a Belgian grade III with Vranken on both sides. I understand some firearms were produced with different engravers - one on each side

PAFOA free to join and no sales fee

Thanks for the tip about PAFOA

I live in Delaware and travel to PA twice a week so it may work out very well.

You can sell through a gun forum, consignment to perhaps a local dealer (and they may advertise it), or Gunbroker. I also have not sold on Gunbroker and have hesitated because I have no history selling on their site.

A number of years ago I listed a gun on a state web site for sale and only got limited interest. I didn't even know about the PA web site. I was not asking a high price either.

The big 22 forum is RimfireCentral. People sell there.

Really nice rifle! Would love to own one like this but I am more in a selling mode now than buying 22 rifles. I started buying what I hoped were pretty accurate 22 sporters about 10-15 years ago. I did that.... some were at shows, some retail, and some from reputable gun shops. Enjoy a nice 22 rifle quite a lot. A local gun shop has a significant collection of S&W and Colt DA revolvers (all NIB) for sale, but at high prices. They are on consignment.

Yep that’s a really nice one, I still have my first one. I got 57 years ago (Grade I) for my birthday from my late Dad. Dinged up, bluing worn, but it’s killed hundreds of critters. I was looking at a Grade II in the early 70’s when I worked in a gun shop, but was on a S&W kick.

Nothing in a semi auto is as svelte as a SA-22....

22-rimfire 22-rimfire

I sold my Coopers some time back. The pricing has gone completely crazy.

That is an amazing firearm and work of art!
It’s a pity you have to sell it.
