As far as German Stag goes, I'm aware of the Puma brand, but it seems like I have seen other really outstanding knives on this forum from Germany, but the company names were not given. I definitely want to support American companies. Thanks for the help.

To clarify are you looking for American made knives with stag handles? If so Case and GEC (Great Eastern Cutlery) are the 2 big ones that people talk about here. GEC being a more upscale, limited production company.

Here are a couple from GEC

Tuna Valley have some preemo stag as well. GEC is hard to beat; here's my last three stag knives from them.

In the German knives, some of the older (1970s-'80s) Fight'n Rooster knives have nice stag, here's a couple.

I'm actually looking for both. I definitely prefer the American GEC stag knives. They are just outstanding. I'm just curious about some German stag that I saw somewhere on this forum with pictures, of some great looking, un-named, German stag folders. I like Puma, but have heard their quality has gone down. Thanks for everyones help. I've got a lot to learn.

Thanks for sharing the images. That's all great looking Stag. That Wharncliffe Trapper is a REAL beauty!

You need to decide what type of Stag you like first . The Stag that is on German or English knives is usually not the same type that is on GEC or Case . I have probably 10 Case knives with Stag and the best one is IMHO not as nice as my worst GEC . Do you want Deep Valleys , Popcorn , or Gnarly ? I would suggest that you go to the Show Me some Stag thread and take a look at the many very , very nice Stag knives that a lot of people have . The best Stag that I have seen on American and German production knives has been on GEC and Boker . I read too many issues with Queen or Tuna Valley to suggest them , but some people get lucky and get a great one. I guess you should handle them first. The custom makers all seem to make some of the best Stag handled ones though . But then you are into a whole different price range. Be ready to pay a $25 to $40 premium for Stag over other handle material. Be aware that a really nice Stag handled knife can give you the dreaded STAG POX , which has been known to cause EMPTY WALLET disease and is usually not curable.
Good luck on your search Tex .

All my doctors couldn't decide on my condition, maybe because I have an empty wallet. Thanks Harry! That was a good one. It's not bad enough buying stag handled knives, but now I'm sending out others to be recovered with stag!

If you like the look of elk stag, Carl Schlieper German Eye brand might be something to consider.

Check out the "stag Saturday" post, it just got back on page 1. You will see a lot of different stag knives.

I bought these two Hubertus folders from a US online knives store a few years back. I like them very much!
