i was wondering if any websites had this knife as low priced as the Navigator people keep mentioning. i dont wanna spend $56 bux on this knife. I think $40 is reasonable, but maybe I am a cheapskate.
I know ebay has a TON of 1st production run models, but i dont want one of those.
any ideas? tx!

I think smoky had some for sale that were made by camillus for syderco for about $24.95, anyone remember this? I think its been about two or three months ago? I think they had been like a prototype, or some kind of special run.

The native made by camillus is NOT the one he (or anyone probably) wants. It is the poorly made one.

I don't think you'll be able to get one for much less then the $56, unless you want to risk going with one of those super-price-iffy-service places.

You may be able to get one pre-loved on the forsale forums.

Being as the MSRP is $84 - I think that $40 is below wholesale.

Those navigators are being liquidated, because they have been discontinued.

If $16 makes that big of a difference to you, perhaps you should either look at a cheaper knife or look at used knives. You could probably get a Native in decent condition in the $35-40 range in the for-sale forums.

It's a heck of a deal for only $56. (Stay away from the BRK native)

IMO, the Native is well worth $56. I carry mine almost every day. I like it much better than a Delica I could have bought for $20 less. BTW, if you aren't good at sharpening, a version of the Native in VG-10 steel should be released soon which will be easier to sharpen than the CPM440V on the current Native.

Edited to correct the steel info: The 2003 Native FRN will have S30V steel, which will still be easier to sharpen than the CPM440V. The new "3D" Native, coming later this year, will supposedly have a contoured, hand-filling handle and the VG-10 steel.

ravenhawks,

It's a shame your pm and email is turned off because I just across an old forsale add that had two navigators forsale for $35 each.

It's a month old but who knows, maybe he still has them forsale. oh well.

thanks for all the help forumsterz. i am new to folders, so sharpening needs to be as easy as possible. edge holding so i dont have to sharpen that often is even more important. is there a solid spydie that you would reccomend? should i stick with the native in gin-1? thx all, and AET, thx for the email address. I may be using it shortly.

I think the questionable ones are marked as BRK (Blue River Knives) which are the subcontracted Natives that even Sal Glesser will advise against if someone is looking for authentic Spyderco quality.

You get what you pay for...

Those Blue Ridge Knives Natives are selling for around $25 on Ebay, any Spydie that cheap makes me suspicious.
