Looking for a set of micarta scales for a BK2. Want quality but don't want to overpay. Any suggestions on where to find the best deal on micarta?

Have seen Tomar's for around $44 shipped.

Thanks in advance!

The factory micarta is great but 710's grips are awesome! He offers way more colors that will make your Becker really look great!

Just make your own!

I've made 4 sets now and I'm completely happy with them. There's a great tutorial floating around here somewhere.

For the price of one pair shipped, you can buy enough micarta to make 3 sets.

Feel free to PM me if you need any tips.
I don't make them for people, but I'd be happy to give out pointers.

Blackhawk, I'm sure I'm not the only one that'd love any tips you have on making your own Micarta scales. How do you drill/shape/grind the Micarta for the hex bolt heads? Any other tips? Don't want to flood you with PM's.

Love those Machax handles!

Excuse my ignorance but don't you have to be really careful to Avoid Breathing the macarta Dust when drilling or Grinding.

Just a thought, but I think you can also get nice wood scales for the same or less money from Tommythewho. Check eBay if interested.

I haven't seen 710's work. But as usual these guys are hitting the nail on the head. check them all out. Tomar's micarta might be a tight fit for the kydex sheath of the bk2. And Tommythewho & 710 are forum members who I have never read one bad word about. examine all three and pick one you like. Happy hunting.

The Kabar Micarta is great. But there are many options for after market scales. TTW wood scales are awesome too!

Also fun to make your own. My first set was a pair I made myself.

I'd advise searching for the tutorial on here for the whole jist of it, but...

You drill the holes with a 3/8" Forstner bit to recess the bolts and nuts.

To get the corners cut, chuck an extra bolt, with the head cut off, in a drill press and thread on a nut.
Using a torch, heat the nut till it glows bright red and plunge it into the 3/8" holes. The heat will burn the corners out.

Do this before shaping and you won't have any discoloration on your finished scales.
