Best product for removing patina (some very heavy)?

Hey Folks,

I have an M4 Para 2 with a light patina i'd love to restore to a shiny finish if possible. I also have a handful of GECs with significantly heavier patina, almost so much it impedes function, that I am not necessarily trying to get back to beautiful shininess, but would like to knock a significant portion off of. Any advice or tips?

thanks!
Caleb

Bar Keepers Friend should remove the patina, but it sounds like you have pitting if it "impedes function" so a fine abrasive may be necessary to make it smooth again.

I'm soaking a german Boker stockman in Evaporust right now. Put it in about an hour ago and plan to check it in the morning. Not trying to get it to look shiny new. I get rust instead of the pretty patina many get. I have tried bluing knives before but it just looks out of place. I'll know tomorrow how the Evaporust works and I"ll try to remember to report back here.
Take care all,
Rick

After soaking in Evaporust for a bit over 12 hours now it does seem to be working but is not done. I have heavy rust on the blades and the back springs have a nice patina. I assume because of the difference in the steel the springs rusted differently. I'll give it another 12 hours and check it. I'll leave it longer if need be. This is my first experience with Evaporust.

When I was a chef, we used rust erasers from Japan.

They'll remove a patina and not hurt the knife.
