This thread is a two part question:
1. In your opinion, what are the two best overall *current* production e.d.c. folders for general use, from slicing apples to self defense (and in-between) and *Why* ? ... as follows:
a) priced under $100
b) priced over $100 but no more than $1,200
And,
2. ...What are the one or two best *currently* available (at least for ordering ;o) custom folders for general e.d.c., just as above in question 1. (but for any price under $1,200) and *Why* ?

I have been learning from and enjoying this site for several months and want to express my appreciation for much of what I've read and learned (especially, but not limited to, Marthinus, Ankerson, Hardheart, and Nozh2002). ...My Apologies if this thread was already covered in another recent thread (but I wasn't able to find a close enough match to this one).
Thanks,
Reston

Spyderco makes the best production folders available in a medium-price range, and at the higher end of production, check out Chris Reeve knives.

If you want a single, all-purpose, production folder that makes for a beautiful EDC, it's hard to beat the Spyderco Para Military 2. Strong lock, thicker than average blade, grippy grips, scary sharp. And somehow, it looks cool on top of all that!

The second part is easy: Allen Elishewitz.

The first part, ZT. I've never handled one, but I hear a lot of good.

The best 2 production folders over $100 are 1. BM275 Adamas, and 2. Fox Deimos. Why: easy, that's what I am currently rotating.
The best 2 custom folders under $1200 are 1. Bob Dozier Workhorse, and 2. John W. Smith SD-3. Why: again, easy, that's what I am currently rotating.

I say this with a little humor, but I think when most of us, who have been longtime collectors/user's, buy a knife, it is with some knowledge of that knife, and why wouldn't we name it for a question like this.:)

Best production folders( non blem) under $100: Spyderco endura and Cold Steel Recon series both are awesome for the money and tough.Over $100 ZT and Strider...both as tough as nails and made of top notch materials fit and finish.
Custom- Sunfish forge and Andrew Demko insane fit and finish. Wild designs. Classy and smooth, but still tough.

For overall quality.

The term "best EDC" changes from person to person. The answer is, there is no best EDC. There are too many variables, budget, legal aspects, what will it be used for, work policies, etc. I've noticed in general most people are happy with a 3" or less blade with simple handle materials.
