I have a couple of 5160 blades in my collection that I try to keep oiled, but I forget sometimes and man do they get surface rust fast!

What do you guys use for protecting your high carbon steels?

In addition to oiling try throwing some desiccant packs into what ever you store your knives in. I keep some in my knife boxes to keep the moisture down and it helps.

I have some desiccant packs in my knife cases, but the two I'm worried about are 28" and 48" and won't fit in my cases.

Currently at my disposal I have Tri-flow, Renaissance Wax and Flitz Gun and Knife wax. Any opinions on which might be best?

I use petroleum jelly on my RTAK 2. I keep it in the stock sheath, and in my basement. Since I last used it, almost a year ago, it is still fine, no rusting.

I'm a machinist and other than reducing wear my next biggest interest is eliminating rust and corrosion. I try everything I can to find the newest and greatest. So far Sentry Solutions Marine Tuff Glide is the winner in both categories. If you put it in the knife hinge, it's amazing how super smooth it becomes. The stuff dries to a film and if you watch their web video on the salt spray test it will make you a fan.
