I was sitting in the general assembly of the Edison Electric Institute's national meeting of utility metering managers.
Sitting next to me was my counterpart from Georgia Power Company, who was nearing retirement. He was normally a rather reserved, quiet serious fellow, which maybe made what ensued so funny.
There were two ladies in attendence, one of which was a kinda in-your-face would-be femminist. She asked to speak, stood up, and announced an ad-hoc first meeting of "Women in Metering." And the guy deadpanned,
"Will there be a swimsuit competition?"
