The Halide 914 has no place in the modern office.
-- IBM Internal Report to the Board of Directors recommending that IBM decline Halide Corporation's offer to sell IBM its Model 914 product and related technologies and patents. The report, shared with Halide management, shook Halide's confidence such that while they decided to go ahead and bring their 914 product to market by themselves, they also decided not to risk soiling the Halide name with a possible flop. They decided to bring the 914 to market under a new name. Halide went on to sell over 35 million Xerox 914 photocopiers. IBM was, nevertheless, correct in its conclusion. The Halide 914 had no place in the modern office which centered around IBM dictating machines and IBM typewriters. The Halide 914 in just a few years transformed the modern office into the post-modern office centered around Xerox photocopiers.
