I used to post at 800 or 850 pixels wide, but I figure with more people getting new monitors more people can handle larger resolutions, so I've bumped up to 900. I'd like to hear from other members which size you think pictures should be posted at on the forum. Thanks

My camera is set to take pics at 1280 x 960. Then I upload those to Photobucket, which automatically reduces them some, but I'm not sure how much, but I do think they're still bigger than 900 wide. If I think the PB pics are still too big, I resample them to 70%, sometimes a bit smaller if there's no detail I'm trying to show. Most of the time I just upload 'em to PB at full size though, and accept whatever they reduce it to for forum postings.

I think the new standard is 1024 on the wide side. Some sites will reduce them and allow the viewer to click for the large picture.

I don't think it makes much difference with the new forum software. There seems to be an automatic size chosen for most large picture 1024 and higher.

How do you post a regular size pic in the exchange ?

Me? I upload to imageshack, I click though all the pop up trash that shows up, then I right click on the picture itself. I copy the code from that and place it between the
tags.

That helped a bunch, I will have to remember to do it that way.
Kind of the way we used to have to do it.

Thank you.

The new software won't display anything larger than 800 pixels wide. I've asked if it could be upped to 1024. No changes as we talk. I'm ever hopeful.

So, best resolution is 800 wide. ;)

Thanks Coop! So my 900 pixel wide pictures are just getting sized down then? My guess is maybe losing some image quality in the process?

I've had my websized images at 900 wide for years. They all get a resize.

Fortunately, the software seems to do a thorough job. I can barely see a difference in quality.

Open one of your posted photos (900) in a separate window and click back and forth.

All that said, my own website software limits my images to 800 wide in my Gallery, so maybe this is an industry standard?

So was dial-up.... ;)
