Hello and Howdy,

I am so knew to knives that I have only one nice folder it is a Gerber Applegate single edge serrated folder. I have a Gerber Applegate single edge covert that I will pick up tomorrow or monday.

That fellas and ladies is my knife collection at this point.

I need some suggestions for a next folder, I love the Emersons but that is about as far as I have gotten.

What would be a good suggestion for around 150-200 dollars for a second style of knife?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Microtech. Manual socom, mini socom, Socom elite, or any other knife they sell for under $200.00. You will not be sorry. If you are allowed to carry an automatic in your state then get an auto. they have quite a few different models in your price range.

I suggest a REKAT Sifu fixed knife ability in a folder and if you get it from 1SKS it's in your price range. I don't have one but everyone here seems to think they're the knife to have. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

For even a bit less money you could get a Spyderco. The Military and Starmate are great lightweight knives. I recently got a Dyad, it is not as sexy but it is a very practical knife since it has two blades, one plain, one serrated while still being a one hander.

If you will consider a fixed blade, you can get some real nice handmades in this price range. Bob Dozier, Bud Nealy........

If you must have a folder try to hand pick an Emerson (spotty QC when I quit buying them) or get a Microtech. If you want something dressier, look at William Henry. Spyderco has several neat offerings, too.

Try MOD knives or something microtech. Very nice knives.

I would recommend any of the Benchmade series axis locks and the new BM-940 looks really cool.Any of these fall into that price range. If you have interest in liner locks then maybe MOD or Microtech folders would be a good choice, very well made. You could of course keep an eye out on the classifieds and see if anybody is trying to unload a small or large plain Sebenza for a few bucks over your limit on the used market. The Sebenza is pretty much the folder of all folders. If you keep your eyes open you may happen upon a used Speedtech which is a hell of an awsome folder also.Hope this helps, later,Ralph

I guess it really depends on what the intended use will be. For utility, I'd go with a spydie Wegner, large plain edge. For defense, the Microtech is hard to beat, as is the Military, AFCK, CQC7, and Commander. For "wow" appeal, the Commander, a used Synergy, or Socom Elite will always raise eyebrows. Don't forget-you can always get a great production folder now and have it "tweaked" by a custom maker later!
(edit: had a whole paragraph on fixed blades, then I re-read the original post!)
Narrow down what you'll primarily be using it for, and the folks here will point you in many great directions!

Welcome to the forums, Judge.

You said you were interested in some Emersons. Check out the sale below. They have the retail price for the CQC-7 wrong though, the Black-T coated ones are supposed to be $139.99 (I think).

They also have the Commander series on sale. Great prices. Pick up the Commander while you can, I hear that wave feature is awfully cool.
