I have an Izula 2 that I edc at work. I'm now in the market for something a little larger. Serving the role as a camp knife/toy that I can screw around with in the bush. I'd like to keep it around the $100 mark and have been looking at the Becker BK2. I've read about some beckers breaking under lateral stress however all of these were different models (bk9/bk7) and the BK2 seems good to go. Am I correct in this assumption and am I missing out on any other great knifes?

BK2 which I don't have or ESEE-5 which I do. I don't think you would be able to break either of those with your own physican strength prying something.

BK-2. It's really thick and tough. It batons and chops well, but doesn't slice or cut very good. IMO

BK-2 IS a sharpened prybar. You'll love it if your looking for something along these lines. I have one, but prefer something with thinner bar steel in the Kabar Becker line. Been trying to talk myself into buying a BK-7. Have a BK-16 which I really like.

Another that could be of interest is the CRKT Razel if you like the flat chisel cut front edge. I could never get used to it.

Bang for the buck? The ESEE 5 seems to be a burly blade that still has loads of functionality.

Ontario Knives SP8, it's served me well for the last 20 years and my guess is that it'll last 20+ more.

Paid $30 for mine back then, they can still be had for $40.

I like Becker's, but the SP8 is just awesome. It chops really well also and you can use the "saw"back to grind up some tender.

BK2 is a sharpened pry bar...and like a pry bar its heavy. I have beat the ever living crap out of mine with no issues. Retains it's edge well, and its well under $100. Do it

Actually the saw back is perfect for notching to make triggers for dead falls, it makes crisp notches needed for the triggers.

Forgot about these two from Tops Knives.

One more vote for the Ontario. Mine came pretty darned sharp but I had Richard J reprofile it and put one of his edges on it. It's a great chopper now.

Yeah, but I think it's a little outside of his price range. The bow-drill divot would be nice for buschcrafting fun though.

Stanley FUBAR Demolition Bar?

Contrary to assertions, the BK-2 is not literally a sharpened pry bar--it's a sharp knife that's thick enough to pry. This IS a sharpened pry bar. :D
