I have a Spyderco Sharpmaker which is a great system, but it sucks for repairing and reprofiling. I want to know what sharpening systems are good for recurve knifes. I have a Spyderco Zulu, Kershaw Speed Bump, Zero Tolerance 350SW, and custom recurved fixed blade that are my go-to knives, so I need something that can sharpen, repair, and reprofile these knives. Ive been considering the Lansky Deluxe Diamond system, the DMT Aligner, and the WorkSharp Knife and Tool Sharpener. I do believe I need a guided system because Im new to sharpening and dont have patience for free hand. One sharpener that is out of the question is the Wicked Edge, it is just way too expensive. Im considering the Edge Pro Apex but only as a last resort, I really dont want to spend that kind of money on a sharpener right now... but maybe during tax season.
I also have one other question.. between the Lansky diamond with the blue stone, the DMT with the extra extra fine stone, and the Sharpmakers ultra fine rod that I already have.. which would give the most noticeable polish? And if the answer is the Lansky or DMT would the difference be dramatic at all, basically would it be worth while to replace my UF rods?
Thank you all for your wisdom, advice, and for sharing your experience.
