What's the best sharpening system for the Emerson edge grind? I'm used to the Sharpmaker and free hand sharpening using stones or rods.

Best is what works for you. I use my SM on my micro-Com and it worked well on my mini-CQC15 when I had it. Since you already have one and also freehand, sounds like you're in pretty good shape.

30 degree microbevel on the logo side; 3-5 degree microbevel on clip side.

Freehand, Sharpmaker, or crock sticks work. I've found that Emerson's are very easy to touch-up and they get hair-popping sharp without too much effort.

Emerson recommends sharpening free-hand on a stone, deburring with a hone on the other side, and stropping to finish. I've found this works quite well also.

EDIT: Just want to point out I still have to buy a stone, I just free hand on sharp maker rods.

I have a Sharpmaker and my Emerson is the only knife that i can't get hair popping sharp with it. Im going to they free handing with the rods tonight i think. No matter how dull it is though it keeps on cutting, love that chisel edge.

Can someone who uses the Sharpmaker explain which angle they use. I think the Sharpmaker is set up for 30 or 40 degree (dont have one yet, looking to get one). Which is best for a Super Commander? Thanks.

I always start with the 30 deg side and a Sharpie. If that works, then I stick with it. If it doesn't hit the edge of the sharpened side, I'll move to the 40 deg slot. That one has never failed me yet. Since I'm only sharpening one side of the blade on an Emerson, I will also adjust my angle a bit to try to keep the factory bevel as much as possible. And I use a strong light and a magnifier when I'm doing the Emerson on the sharpmaker so I can see what I'm doing with my angle adjustment.
