Just a question regarding sharpening systems for knives, mostly plain edge, some serrated (the serrated is not really that important).

I have been looking at Lansky and the Spyderco equivalent. What do you guy's use and recommend??

thanks for the info, Fabian

I was sharpening challenged until I bought the Spyderco Sharpmaker 204. I had a Lansky, a Lansky knockoff, some crock stik type thingys and couldn't get an acceptable edge with any of them. The Sharpmaker came with a training video and manual. It's incredibly easy to use and keeps my users scary sharp with minimal effort and no unsightly sharpening scratches. I highly recommend it.

It's not the pace of life that concerns me, It's the sudden stop at the end.

Of those chocies I would go with the 204. However, if you want a really good and versitile system go for an EdgePro Apex. A little more expensive, but if you compare it to the cost of an average knife, it's worth it.

Fabian,
See my review of the Edge Pro Apex in the Review forum.
Any questions, feel free to email me.

If you can afford it, go for the edge pro. On a budget you can't beat the Sharpmaker 204.

The first knife was probably used to cut stuff.

Best?? Well, a grinder and a buffer and a strop. If cost/portability/space is an issue, I think the best combo would be any coarse stone (I.e., go to Sears, Wal-mart, wherever) and the Sharpmaker. The stone is for re-profiling edges and the sharpmaker sets the edge. It does serrations quite easily as well!!!

The Spyderco Model 204 is the best value out there. Furthermore, it's so quick and easy to set up and use that you'll never have a dull edge again.

I like my Sharpmaker to be sure, but the Edge Pro Apex is the best I've ever used by a long shot.
