hey all, new here to the site.

recently i bought a scuba knife to go on my wade fishing belt. primarily so it wouldn't rust in saltwater. i know i know, your saying why did he do that? because i could and i also get lazy sometimes after fishing. too lazy to clean my stuff up. thus all my carbon steels would rust:eek:....anyway,

i took back a Lansky medium grade diamond stick that didn't work. (not for me anyway).
so i've been looking at the Lansky "angled" hone kits. i've also seen the larger diamond stones. so can anybody direct me in the right direction to sharpen this $100 XS Scuba Tanto Beta titanium knife? i don't need to shave hairs(would be nice) but an extremely sharp fishing knife would be cool. right now with it being new, it just has a feather edge on it---and not very sharp. see the link below. :)

i was gonna load a pic of my knife but my camera is not happy to day.....

I have had success with ceramic stones but still have not been able to get Ti very sharp, maybe its just me. I would think diamond hones would work best but again I could be wrong. +1 for H1 you would get better edge performance.

"Beta Titanium" means that it is an alloy of Ti and something else, and unless you know what that "something else" is, it`s gonna be a guessing game....

Ti, like some damascus can be very sharp, but not does "feel" sharp. I have Ti bottle opener/push knife I bought from the Crawfords a couple of years ago that I use as a "bar knife" for cutting lemon rinds, lime wedges and stuff like that. It is very sharp, but doesn't feel that way. It cuts tissue paper straight, which is good enough for its intended purpose. I use the fine ceramic stone on the Spyderco 204, and then test the edge by cutting tissue paper. Ti is softer than steel, so don't try and overdo it, you can really screw up a blade that way. I know...:o. If you've already done that, I'd send it back to the manufacturer for sharpening and start fresh. BTW, a bottle opener/push knife makes a hell of a conversation starter...or possibly a conversation ender!;)

i love margarittas, tequila shots, and limes so maybe i'll make it a lime cutter.....

If you are new to sharpening don't expect to get good results for a while.

well i started with a coupla knives that need to be in the garbage. then went for a couple that just needed sharpening. (just dull) i got'em very sharp with the fine diamond hone. then went with my TI knife. i used the 20 degree again and was patient and consistent on both sides :yawn: . success, very sharp but no hair shaving......:grumpy:

no problem, it'll cut the musterd as a great fishing blade and finally no rust.... whew....but what an investment--:(

gonna check out the H1 Steels next.:)
