Best sheath option for me?

Hey all,

I've got a few hogs tucked away (BWM, FBM SE, HR, Mofo and 2x AD).

I'm pretty into camping and backpacking and am trying to think the best way to carry the BWM and one of the ADs. I've seen the piggyback rigs and am intrigued to say the least.

Is a piggyback dangler overkill? It seems like that's a lot of weight / size to be on one piece. I will say that's what I'm leaning towards, one of the armoralls or rainwalkers.

When you guys camp or backpack how do you carry one of the big guys and then something smaller like an AD?

i love the piggyback set up especially with the dangler. here is a current pic of my set up for woods bumming. b11 and esee izula 2

I'm not a big fan of that much weight in one spot on my belt... too much tugging my pants down.

To carry both, I would do one of three things:

1) Carry the BWM on my belt and the AD in a pouch-style sheath (or kydex) dropped in my pocket

2) Carry the AD on my belt and strap the BWM to my pack

and least appealing to me... 3) carry both in seperate sheaths on my belt to distribute the weight some.

Piggyback rigs look awesome, and I'm sure some guys absolutely love them. They are just not for me.

One pretty useful version of the piggyback is removable. Using rigging straps you can attach the smaller sheath to the larger. Also with the right backing you can easily strap the large sheath to your pack and wear the smaller on the belt.

The loops on the sheath are a little different on the piggyback, I inset them a little to allow the straps to snap around them for a secure lock. I have a sheath pic like that somewhere, I'll find it and post it as well.

Bullit,

Taco the big sheath and use Molle-loks to carry it on your pack. Then put the smaller knife on your belt or wear it on / near your chest (depending on your rig). I'll try and post a pic later of my hunting setup.

I have a dangler Chuddy Bear sheath for my FFBM and I piggy a SAR 3 on it

Well, I like the versatility that multiple sheaths give me. I can take any of a variety of different knives at different times, because they are all separate units.

Sorry to resurrect this, but I saw this spineless pic courtesy of Armorall.

Thinking of putting the BWM LE in it, does it have any disadvantages?

I remember that rig! The knife is called the Banned Cutter, it has an edge in the spine, Sweet knife for sure.

Here's a better representation of an open spine knife sheath I did a while back for a FBM, this one locks the talon hole guard into a depression in the welt of the sheath. That way it only needs one strap.

Wow, is that an FBM with a gut hook? I need to see if I can find a pic of just the blade as that is really cool.

You might ask Ban as he is the one that did the work. The knife was a FFBM.

I dont think it was intended as a gut hook though.

For backpacking (either strapped to the pack or on the belt) it seems like it might be better to have the spine closed (crap getting in there etc), but the spineless does look bad@$$.

I was thinking the exact same thing!!

I've never seen a Busse with a gut hook :eek:

We need PICS, PICS, AND MORE PICS!!! :D

The way the open spine sheaths are done, if done well, doesn't allow much at all to get past the knife. If anything does get in there though its really easy to get it out because there's not much in the way honestly.

Like I said above, I don't think it was intended as a gut hook, the name for it is the "Banned Cutter" kind of implying with a pun that its a band cutter. I'm scouring old pics and I hope someone else is as well, its too nice a knife to let sit on a disk somewhere. :)

Baldric style carry is also convenient. You get the sheath off your belt, and the weight distribution is not bad.

You can attach more knives for a big small combo. I often put my Glock on there for a chest draw with a removable holster.

Thanks Dwayne. I searched for it and found a thread about Blade 08, but there wasn't any really good pics of it. I may have to ask Ban if he has a pic of it like you said.
