I am actively looking for the best shortsword for the money. I want a tanto style blade, 10 inch handle , and solid construction. I know I am asking for a lot but I have been searching for a while with no apparent luck. If anyone knows of a custom maker or dealer please let me know. The sword I want is a very plain zaitoichi style.

Thanks in advance.

Check out Rob Criswell. www.nwcutlery.com carries his stuff.
I got one a few weeks ago and it is great but have not had a chance to do anything with.

Hey Bandit, you need to go to the Sword forum and talk to Rieki. He'll get you all lined out. At least, he'll be able to tell you all about the one you want. And he might even have a link or two for you to look up. Good luck on your quest, weedhopper.

Thank You everybody. I am currently checking out both Kris cutlery and Criswell Blades.

Well, if you're willing to go custom, how about a Hossom? Talk about "bang for the buck"!

I second the suggestion for a Hossom. He is currently making a "Millennium Wakizashi" for me. It is very similar to the one pictured above only it has a traditional looking wakizashi style blade (20") and a hand-and-a-half handle identical to Hossom's Millennium Machete. If you do a search for these you may be able to find pictures on the forums, including a picture of an un-ground Millennium Wakizashi blade blank. I own a few of the Blackwind swords by Ontario and they are nice for the money (good beaters). I had to put wood slab handles on them, though... The Hossoms are pricey, but if you have ever put your hands on any of his work, you will know why. Unbelievably quick and lively.

Thanks everybody! I am currently checking out Criswell, Kris, and Hossom. Of these 3 I am leaning hardest towards the Criswell as I like the price and the fact that he has been the most willing to cstomize his work within his listed price. Thanks for all the options.
