I know this should be in a different section but i wanted more people to comment and see it. I want to find a good leatherman multi tool that is strong and durable. It needs good plier heads but does not need to have great wire cutters. It would be nice if it hadd a saw. I dont care for an file. I would like a can opener and bottler opener. i am willing to give up sissors but they would be nice to have. I also dont really care for the blade steel. I would like if it had a bit exchanger rather than a fixed philips, flat head, etc. My budget is a bout 120 tops. Thanks for your comments :)

For $120.00 You can buy two (2) ST300 tools, yes you have to shop around but you can find them. So I say get two ST300s, one on your belt and one in your pack, the second is a back up and when you need an extra set of pliers. The ST300 has alot going for it, it is strong and has a great selection of tools.

is the st300 worth the weight?

Only you can decide what is most important to you. If you are humpin' 90 lbs of gear into the woods (you did say SHTF), maybe you go with something lighter. If you are hunkering down at home, then the weight doesn't matter. A smaller brother like the Rebar is plenty capable too, so you just have to figure out what works best when factoring in size and weight vs. utility.

If I carry a Leatherman it’s a Charge, with extra bits and a bit extension. The bit extension is important to reach those screws you can’t reach without it.

For an emergency kit I use a Supertool. Why? Everything is attached. I don’t have to worry about dropping the bit I need into the undergrowth.

Charge Tti! I've got more multitools than I care to admit & it's the only one I pick up when I leave the house. One handed s30v blade, good saw, pocket clip, a bit exchanger, scissors, can opener, and a few other implements that I use daily.

My favorite Leatherman is the Wave. But, lately i've started relying more on a SAK than a multitool since i usually dont need the pliers.

I've always been a sucker for the multi-tool, but the problem has always been the weight/utility ratio. At home, I've got a full range of tools that are much, much better than a multi-tool. When hiking, the full-set multi-tools are just too heavy and I seldom need anything in the multi-tool. If I do, chances are it's something I can anticipate and carry a specific tool that will work much better.

For a BO bag, fine. Throw in the biggest, fattest multi-tool you can find.

For real life, I've found that the Leatherman Skeletool is a pretty good compromise. It has a good set of pliers, which are really useful, a Phillips and standard screwdriver bits, a decent and easy-to-deploy 154CM backup blade and, embarrassingly, a really useful bottle-cap remover. And it's light enough to actually carry on an everyday basis.

Leatherman charge for sure. Blade on it is s30v and it's light weight. The Leatherman surge is horrible. It's heavy and has a terrible pinch point when you use the pliers.

in a shtf situation id be completely content with my super tool 300. it has a permenant place in my maxpedition bag

Are you dead set on Leatherman? I have owned several different LMs and they were all good tools, but I have come to prefer the Victorinox Swisstools. They have a useful and varied array of implements, which all lock and can all be opened without unfolding the pliers. The fit and finish is superb as well.

I've tried several Leatherman tools, and the one I reach for when I need something strong is the ST300. I added a Victorinox ratchet with extra bits to mine (there's an extra compartment in the back of the Super Tool pouch).

However, my most used multitool is a Victorinox SwissTool Spirit and it's amazing. The pliers are better on the Super Tool, though.

For a SHTF type-situation, I'd go with a Squirt PS4. I survived in the eye of a hurricane, during the middle of a blizzard, on top of a monsoon with a tornado chasing me around with just the clothes on my back and a Squirt. Trust me, it's all you need.
