Best Silky to compete with Laplander?

I've had my Laplander for about 8 years now and looking to get a new folding saw. Trying to get the lightest, smallest Silky in hopes of staying within the same/better weight/performance as my Laplander. On my scale the Laplander is 6.65oz with a 7.5in blade. While researching I found there are many different Silky's to choose from. The 170mm curved PocketBoy claims to cut 15-20% more efficiently than the non-curved version. Wouldn't that technically mean it cuts more efficiently than their 180mm straight version (170x15%=195.5)? Can anyone confirm if this is true? Also, the item weight for the 170mm curved PocketBoy is listed as 7.4oz while the item weight of the 180mm straight version is said to be 6.4. Anyone with these saws able to measure them on their scales?

I love my straight P.B.
Arthritic hands and wrists made it difficult to use a hatchet/ boys axe and it was a game changer for me.

hey

i used the pocket boy 180 and ultra accel 240 for many years and switched to fixed silky saws.

the curved blades are more efficient, but i prefer a straight blade for crafting. they also can cross cut.

below you see a replacement blade for the gomtaro 300mm (11.8in) with a paracord wrap and weighs 2.8oz (80g) without the sheath that i made from the plastic it came in and some duct tape (weighs around 30grams)

the gomtaro is also available at 170mm (7in) length.

i highly recommend them. you'll never look back.

I like that everyone is saying they like Silky's, but I've already decided to buy a Silky and want to know specifics about the variations. I ordered the 170mm curved PocketBoy. I'll post about it after some testing.

Yep, that's what it says. Which one out-competes the Laplander the best. In my post I go into detail on how weight is a part of that equations. Telling me you like Silky's does nothing. What variant do you have, and how much does it weigh?

I replaced mine with a Silky Gomboy 240.

It has 2.5" more blade length and weighs 2 ounces more.

I think you'll be happy with the pocketboy. I have the straight one, and even though it's shorter than the laplander it still cuts remarkably faster and easier so I never looked back. I can stuff a laplander in my pants pocket, but the pocketboy is even smaller and fits in my cargo pocket pretty easy.

The silky blades are heat treated harder and can break if you're tired and sloppy and in a hurry to get through the wood. The laplander's blade is softer and will take a set instead of breaking, so it can be a little more forgiving, just depends on what your priorities are.

Just found this comparison pic of the Silky F180 and Bahco Laplander.

As a direct comparison (in size, weight and blade length) I'd have to agree that the F180 is the best choice.

Having both the Bacho Laplander and the F180, I prefer the F180 in every way.
