Best small carry emerson?

I'm looking for a knife to carry when I venture into the shadier parts of town. I like the karambit but unfortunately I don't have enough experience with the curved blade to feel comfortable using it. I have a 3.5" hinderer I normally carry, but the problem is it's a bit too bulky in my pants so when I go out to bars/clubs it sticks out a bit too much and it's uncomfortable. I like to dance and I don't want girls to think I'm that excited all the time.. :p

I'm on the search for a small blade that rides well in the pocket but with the 'shtf' in case of emergency ability (IE, I want a wave).

Right now I'm really leaning towards a mini cqc-7 and eventually getting it pimped out by either nath or ferrrk, but I'm not sure how I'll like the knife. I've done some searching and it look like it's actually quite a thick knife due to the thick liners, etc. I'm concerned it won't ride well in the pocket. I'm also a bit concerned with the size (is it more comfortable than a mini grip in terms of handle size? The mini grip only allowed me three fingers comfortable). I've had a gentleman jim, a mini cqc15, and a mini roadhouse, and I loved them, but they were a bit too big to carry comfortably in skinny jeans and I'd rather carry my hinderer if I need a 'bigger' knife. I think I'd love the mini a100 / a100 but they don't have a wave. Any alternatives or do you guys think the mini cqc-7 will fit my needs?

Any opinions / suggestions / advice?!
Thanks in advance

You might want to look at a) an Endeavor or Reliant (tanto)or b) a Spyderco waved Delica or Endura. The Endeavors are sightly thinner than the mini-15 that I carry, but AFAIK, Emerson doesn't do really "thin" knives. The Spydercos will be a better choice there.

I have the Emerson Traveler (3.0" blade), which is one of the smaller knives they make and it's the same thickness as my CQC-10, CQC-7 and Mini Roadhouse.

Mini A100 is very small, like a small Sebenza except you can hold on to it because it has textured scales. No Wave on the A100s of course.

I've been eyeing a Gentleman Jim, the so called Emerson Gentleman's knife. I've never handled one but they look pretty compact and it still has a 3 3/4" blade with the Wave.

I have owned several Emerson's....and would have to vouch for the Mini Roadhouse as the best choice for a "small" knife for SD. Emerson really doesn't do "small" knives by comparison, so maybe you should look at a waved Delica or Endura like dalefuller suggested....they're much thinner but not as rugged.

I'm a fan of the "smaller" Emerson models and own about all of them in different configurations. From what you've described, I'm thinking too that you should take a look at the Traveler. Great small knife, waved, and still large enough if you need to poke something, and still with a small enough blade to be legal in most jurisdictions. But of course you'd need to verify thst part as there are so many variations from place to place.

If you would like comparison pics like to the Mini A100, Mini 7A, Mini 8, etc., let me know and I can send them for you.

The Traveler us one of my favorites for smaller EDC. Great knives!

Traveler, Horseman, Endeavor, BM Mini Barrage, Delica, Native 5 G10

I have others as well if you want to see different comparisons.

Hope this helps. The Endeavor is a great knife as well. Bigger version of the Traveler.

My opinion/suggestion/advise...

There is a saying about going where angels fear to tread... If you feel you need a weapon in these places, maybe you need to reconsider where you are going. My job allows me to carry a gun almost anywhere... Yet, I often avoid problem areas unless on duty/at work. It just isn't worth the hassle sometimes.

Someone mentioned the micro commander, it is small, maybe too small for you, I know it was too small for my hand but it might be better than nothing. And it does have a wave.

Skinny jeans... Maybe wear something less skinny? I'm an old goat so to me tight jeans are a freshly washed and dried pair of 501's ( or 505's if it is more of a dress up kind of occasion), not necessarily skin tight like some of today's skinny jeans but I can carry a regular size Roadhouse, wallet, and other odds and ends in the pockets w/o needing a belt. You didn't say what pocket you carry your knife in. Maybe moving from a front pocket to a back pocket. My Roadhouse rides really well in my back left pocket. I can wave it out like lightening if necessary.

Others have made good suggestions here.

YMMV, my $0.02.

For your purposes I'd go mini roadhouse because of the choil that the mini 7 lacks.

That being said I like the mini 7 better for an edc knife. I personally didn't care for the mini roadhouse.

Good luck!

You talked me into it. Unless one pops up on the exchange tomorrow I'll be ordering one on Monday.
- Just so you know, one of your original comments was that the standard Emerson knife was too thick. The mini-CQC7 may be smaller, but it's not thinner.

Here is a mini CQC-7 vs a G10 Delica.

The CQC is thinker in the handle but the Delica has a wider profile because of the Spyderhole. While bother are great EDC options, I think the CQC carries well, I have a few of them now and I don't think the thickness is any issue and I wear relatively slim fitting clothing. I prefer the rougher G10 on the CQC than that on the Delica. I no longer have a regular Delica to compare it to as I found the G10 Delica to feel much better in my hands than the tradition ones.
