I'm looking for a good small vic swiss army knife with a pen to EDC along with my usual 806d2 or ritter grip, mostly for the one or two times a month that I need to write a check, or fill out a form, or something like that. Up till now my SAK has been a tinker.

The scientist seems to fit this bill almost perfectly, but as pretty much all of you guys know this knife is out of production, and is hard to find (if one of you guys has a spare for sale, I would probably be willing to take it off your hands, depending on how much you wanted for it ;)).

Thanks for any help you guys can provide,

Small as in "not a Swiss Champ", or small as in a keychain knife? If you mean a keychain knife, I'd say a V'nox Midnight Manager or Mini Champ (or the versions with the LED light). If you mean a larger one, I would have to go with the Cybertool 29, but I don't know if that's too large for you. How many backsprings is your limit?

I was thinking along the lines of about the same size as the tinker (both back springs(two) and length), although I might be willing to go one or possibly two more back springs then that one if I needed to.

I can't find a 2 layer one with a pen. The smallest is the Compact, at 3 layers, but no phillips driver. You could probably choose the 3 layer one of your choice, then order handles for like the Cybertools which have a place for the pen. I'm not certain the handles are the same for the corkscrew vs phillips driver 91mm SAKs.

The Compact is a 2 layer model. The corner of the combo bottle/can opener will fit #1 and #2 phillips.

Oh, the site I was looking off said it was 3 layers.

There are 3 tools...Blade, scissors, and combo tool, but they are on 2 backsprings.
On the back are the parcel hook/nail file and corkscrew/small screwdriver.
In the scales, tweezer, toothpick, pen, and straight pin.
The Compact is my favorite cellidor handled SAK.

I have a Vic. Midnight Manager II on my keychain. It has a red LED light, pen, nail file, small blade, bottle opener, small phillips. It's handy. The nail file can be pulled out as an extension of the pen to make writing easier.
