So is the SureFire M1 "it" for a small but bright IR flashlight for use out to 100 yards - or should I consider something else?

For something super small (for close in/indoor use) I've been looking at either the Photon II or ARC AAA lights. Can anyone tell me which one's a better choice?

Thanks.

It may not be the right choice for you, but I've been pretty happy with the CMG Infinity LED lights, the ones in the little aluminum body. Great battery life, fits in a pocket easily, and the red/amber ones are good for night stuff, at least for working close up. It looks to be identical to the Arc, but I see it around for $17 versus the $21 Brightguy.Com wants for the Arc, and he's usually pretty good on prices. The CMG is a AA versus the AAA of the Arc, if I read everything correctly.

I took a quick look for infrared on the Brightguy site, and there was a pretty good selection, mostly of infra lenses for traditional lights up to 2 million candlepower

Thanks for your reply, JohnG.

FWIW, I was very disappointed with the Infinity when I got one a year or two ago as a present for a friend. It was/is dimmer than I expected and the painted finish started wearing fairly quickly. From all that I've read thus far on the subject, the ARC Lights are way brighter and better made, hence the cost.

Also, strictly speaking, I'm looking for a true IR light, not a filtered white light. Thanks.

I've got an ITT 150 2nd gen. monocular and can light up a football field with a Photon II!!!! It is amazing how much light the little sucker puts out. Considering ITT wants almost $150 for an illuminator that does the same job as a $20 Photon, you know which one I've got clipped to the wrist strap of my night vision......;)
