Which solder/flux combo works best using 416 guard material and the simple Carbon Steels like O-1, 1084 and 5160? I use brass for guards and use the silver solder you get at Home Depot it works alright. Stainless steel guards are new ground for me and the silver solder/flux combo from HD just ain't gettin' it done.
Thanks for your help!:D

All the best,
Mike U.

BTW, a search here and elsewhere yielded no pertinent info.

Mike,
I use the store brand from Ann Sheffield. I've soldered brass, ns, 416 to all the different blade materials with good luck. Get the flux that goes with it.

Thanks Kit! I need to take a trip to Sheffield's soon so I'll put that on the list.

All the best,
Mike U.

Kit,

Are you speaking of the liquid flux from Sheffield?? That is where I have been getting my silver solder and liquid flux from. If you are happy with that flux, I'll stick with it. I have not tryed any other silver solder flux yet.

Thanks,

Roger
