best source for 2x72 belts...

Do a search on ebay for sanding belts. I buy mine from a woman named Barbra Snyder. (Barkat on ebay) Great prices and a variety of grits and belt types. They ususally work out to about $2.00 each which is pretty good.

i buy my 3m cubeatron, norton hoggers and hermes from www.trugrit.com cheap A/O belts are okay for handle shaping but ceramic/ name brand belts cost less in the long run.

I can rec. barkat as well. I use 6x48 and 10 with shipping and tax(I live in Ohio) is around 25.00 for 10. You can get anything on Ebay.

At the NY Hammer in, I heard from several people that Jim Poplan was a good source for belts, but I never got his contact info. Does anybody know how I can reach him?
I'm assuming that he is Pop's knife supplies, but I could be wrong.

yes, its pops knife supply. i have heard good thing about him too. www.trugrit is about the best price on 3m products and they are close enought that i get the order the next day, no extra charge.

Tru-Grit is the only to go, you are going to get
what you pay for. Cheap belts = poor performance, good
belts 3M and norton hoggers = money saves in the end.

I have seen a couple places that sell belts for belt sanders, and then right next to them are rolls. How do you use the rolls on belt sanders? Is there a special adhesive or something once you cut it to size?

Terry, if they are what I am thinking, they are not for your grinder. They are called shop rolls, and used as sandpaper, except much more flexible. Used in a shoeshine motion, they are great for handles, etc. You just tear off what you need. ;) :)

I just bought some zircs from her for $3 each, and they're pretty awe-inspiring. Never had a hint of a problem with her ordering from her site or eBay. She doesn't gouge on shipping and still gives the full level of customer service to smalltime buyers like me.

Oh yeah, and she's nice.

I also like Barb on eBay. Another good ebayer is Kim at Discount Abrasives, discount_abrasives@yahoo.com .The blue Zirks are $2.25.
I use them when carving mammoth teeth and They last about four times longer than aluminium oxide.

I go with Pop's. He's a great guy and is willing to answer any questions you might have. Great prices and shipping costs.
