Hey guys, I have a few Spyderco Salt knives (currently a PE Pac Salt x2, a SE Pac Salt, and a SE Spyderhawk) and I'd like to know your opinions on which is best for recreation like swimming in oceans/lakes, fishing on the boat, tubing, etc.

I personally think the serrated edge is the best because it cuts rope better and is better for a defensive encounter (not necessarily against humans). The reason I say it's better for a defensive encounter is because getting slashed and thrusted with a serrated edge would cause a lot more damage then a plain edge blade. The serrated would be a lot more jagged etc.

I really look forward to hearing your thoughts. :)

Thanks

Plain edge all the way for me. I have one in fact, yellow. I used it in Hawaii at all times and I carry it while fly fishing every time I'm on the river, even when wet wading (my primary method). All your points are valid but as important as use factors are, keeping the knife sharp is paramount and even though you can successfully sharpen an SE knife, doing it religiously has proven difficult for me based on my history . . . Cutting rope, webbing or other so called difficult to cut materials is a piece of cake for a sharp, PE edge knife.
