Which one of the Spyderco sharpening line do you think is the best excluding the sharpmaker?

Depends on what you need. I don't use the sharpmaker, so I use their benchstones. The pocket stones are great for field work (esp with a DMT) Their files and shaped stones are great for tools such as gouges and sharpening pesky recurves

Another vote for the Sharpmaker. Simple to use, built-in case, great results. We need a "205" or "204 Deluxe" that includes the diamond and ultrafine rods including stowage for all at around $100 street price.

I think the Spyderco stones are among the best. Just get the size and grain that meets your needs. If you are new top sharpening, the 204 is very versitle and can take the form of a benchstone when you

You may want a coarse diamond stone to accompany your spyderco ceramics. The diamonds will make quick work of reprofiling or repairing a damaged blade.

Which shape of Ceramic would you recommend?

If your blades are all Plain Edge and clip, spey, drop etc. you only need a flat stone. (Get at least a med and a fine. - Ultra coarse diamond and Ultra fine are nice to have.)

If you have a hawkbill or some blades with recurve in them (sharp edge on the inside of a curve), you will need a rod or triangle to get in there.

If you have serrated blades, triangle shapes work well to slip in and out of the serrations (use a fine/uf grade only unless the blade needs serious work).

If you have anything else weird you need a wierd shape to get it sharp.

So I guess it all depends on what you are sharpening. What are you sharpening?
