Best Stainless Steel for Folders POLL

Ok, based on the other thread regarding best steels, here is a more refined thread.

so Pick your favorite stainless folder steel:
S30V
VG10
BG42
ATS34/154CM - they are the same steel
440C
ZDP189
420HC
AUS8
D2
S90V

Actually 154cm/ats34 is one of my favorite SS's for folders. I really hate just naming one steel my favorite but I guess that is what these polls do. I'd rather have a rating poll of somekind where you could rate them in order of preference and add them up, but you cannot do that with the std poll like this. I really like 154/ats34, BG42 and VG10 but I can only vote for one.

I didn't realize D2 was stainless. That being said, I'd choose S30V followed closely by VG10.

i went with VG10 cause i have 4 Spydercos that have VG10 but i have a Kershaw Avalanche with S30V and its awesome as well, and all are great.

Cobalt you forgot N690Co, great stuff. I would go for either BG42 or N690Co, followed by S30V and ATS-34/VG10

+1 for N690. Started playing with a Monochrome and I am really impressed with the performance of this steel. It might displace 154CM as my absolute fav.

S30V is the overwhelming choice of the top folder makers--people like RJ Martin, Bob Terzuola, etc. So I am convinced that it's the overall best of the commonly available stainless blade steels.

That said, I have knives of ATS-34, VG-10, AUS 8, S30V, S60V, etc. As a user, I cannot much tell the difference among them. If you handed me a couple unmarked, identical looking knives, one w/ say S30V, and one with AUS 8 blade, I don't know that I could tell you which was which after a week's use.

Not so w/ zdp 189. With the zdp, you know that you have moved a level up. Just try slicing newspapers. The zdp will keep going & going. The others will have to be resharpened in short order, as they will stop cutting and start tearing. That is why I cast my vote for zdp-189.
