I know some of the steel charts available on the net, but I´m curious if there´s something like a complete cutlery steel chart including Rockwell hardness online.

Input greatly appreciated.

I have one for you. Shoot me an email stating what you wanted and I will shoot it over. I got from someone over at the spyderco forums.

The chemistry of a steel is a constant -- a certain percentage range of this, a different percentage of that. Rockwell hardness, however, is not something that inherent to the steel itself. There are many steels in production where, for different types of knives, the final Rockwell hardness can be as much as 10 points different. 5160, for example, can be left anywhere between the low and high 50s. Stainless steels typically have a much narrower range within which they function well, but they still do have a range. That's why it's generally not useful to have rockwell hardness included.

Anyway, the point is, for it to be accurate, a chart that includes Rockwell hardness better be specific for a certain type of knife or manufacturer. For example, Spyderco's 440V is 55-56 Rc -- but not everybody's is.

The best chart I've found so far is the Spyderco one.

Spyderco.com, click Edge-ucation, click steels...

Thanks for all the replies.

jjcoolay,
e-mail sent. Thanks you for the kind offer to mail this chart.

Joe,
I know about the different grades of Rockwell hardness certain steels may achieve, but there´s usually something like an ideal (or at least most common) hardness to every steel. That´s what I was asking for, I probably didn´t make that one clear in my initial post.

chart has been sent. It's the best one I have seen around, better than the one on the spyderco page at the moment
