One of my buddys wants me to make him a skinning knife for hogs. Hogs are notorious for dulling knives. I've experienced it myself. Can hardly make it thru one pig without resharpening. Any suggestion for a good steel for this knife? It will be a small full tang skinner.

CPM-D2
S30V
ZDP-189
S90V
52100 at Rc62
CPM-M4 at Rc63-64

Of the steels above my personal choice would be S90V or the 52100 with a high Rc, Those steels would not have a problem finishing the hog without sharpening.

I don't know if anything will stand up to hog hair a long time, but my 154cm Benchmade doesn't seem to ever get dull and i've abused it a good bit.

A 4" deeply hollow ground drop pt. in 440C is enough to gut, skin and quarter several feral hogs.As they usually don't exceed 200lbs..154CPM will do alittle better. But the grind is more important.DM
