That prosthetics guy I mentioned in the other thread wants 6 knives made for skiving leather for prototype prosthetic legs.

He wants something chisel ground and it has to stay sharp!

I'll be sending it to Paul for heat-treat.

Nick, I would think that D2 left a bit hard would excel in this feild... as long as you arent cutting anything other than leather you could leave your peice sorta hard and not worry too much...Especially chisel ground where you have stock building up quite fast behind the bevels.. Maybe ground all the way to your cutting edge versus having that secondary bevel on it...

Just a thought...

Try 3v you can grind it so thin it will cut with almost no effort.
I have ground blades that are at 2.5 deg with a full grind no secondary.
This steel will work and hold up paper thin.

Thanks!

That's funny, those were two of the ones I was thinking of. I haven't ground any 3V yet, can I just call the LA number for Crucible and order some???

Also, I was wondering about 420V or I guess it's called S90V now???

Thanks again.

Nick If you can't get the 3V give me a shout I still have 200 lb or so left of the stuff.

420v can be hard to sharpen but can hold it's edge 10 times over ats-34 with like blades.

Well, I had some D2 and I called up Crucible today.

Ouch, 3V is spendy. $15 per pound for 0.170" thick (1.25x22" pieces)

Paul can treat this right
