After a bit of practice on wood and experimentation finding the right shape, I've decided to go ahead and grind out a few throwers. These are going to be about 13" long when I'm done. What would be a good choice of steel to use? I'm thinking 5160, but I'd like some more input.

Not an expert by any means but from what I do know that is a sound choice if you don't harden it too much. You want it on the soft side so it won't crack or chip.

I've seen that page a few times before. My crappy little Screaming Arrows bend like that on one miss. I'll get both 5160 and 1050 and see how it works out. Thanks a lot.

The difference is that mine will spring back to shape. Mine is bent with a 20 ton press, not by throwing.

Yeah, I know. These Screaming Arrows are total crap. After every session I have to straighten the things out. It's kind of fun pretending to be Superman, bending them back into shape by hand. :D

ive always been partial to L6. nearly indestructable steel. keeps an edge, you can chop wood with it, throw it, immerse in salt water, dig a hole, whatever. takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
