I am getting ready to start on my fifth knife soon and I a thinking about going crazy and try and make one of my favorites. A sub Hilt Fighter! Who is the best around? Do you have a favorite maker? Paul

TDE,
The subhilt by William B. Ellis on the cover of Knives 2004 is really awesome! Mike Fellows has a really nice one in there, too. The Big Bear by Bob Loveless has to be my favorite, though.

The best is Bob Loveless, David Broadwell and Brad Duncan (believe it or not, he also makes nice fixed blade).

walter brend's subhilt model 2 is the best by far. but the chances of you finding one in the secondary market are the same as the chances of me farting and $1600 flying out of my cornhole. you'd have to get one from him direct.

Yes, I have seen a pic of the Brad Duncan subhilt...it looks great! Good list, BTW...I would add Brend, Siska, Lovestrand, and RJ Martin:

^^i've handled that exact martin subhilt. the fit & finish/workmanship were about 60% of the "fineness" of a brend model 2. still a really nice design though, just not finished to the nth degree.

Schuyler Lovestrand.
