Best Surefire model for EDC??

I'm thinking about taking the plunge and buying my first Surefire this weekend at a local gun show. I've heard and read many great reviews on the E2e, and because of this I'm highly considering it as my first choice. I would be using it for EDC work and non-work carry.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on what Surefire would be the best choice for EDC?

Thanks for your input. :D

Would anyone have a pic of the E2E and E1E together? I am trying to get an idea of size. the E2E is a lot brighter, but is it a lot bigger?

Dennis,
The E1e is 3.3" long and the E2e is 4.5" long. That extra 1.2" is the size of one 123A battery bumps the power up by 400%. Unless you need the tiniest non-LED light, the E2e would probably be a better fit.

without a doubt, the best edc SF is the E2e HA finish, get the HA finish, its well worth it imho

I have a Streamlight Scorpion, plus the E2E, D3 and E1 from Surefire. The flashlight that gets the most use is the E1.It's small enough that you'd be likely to have it with you when you need it, it's brighter than a mini maglite and it has 15 minutes more burn time than the E2E.

So...I vote for the E1.

E2e, you won't regret it. I can't imagine beng without mine :)

I have the E1e but find it's small size makes it fiddly to use, the E2e is very 'hand' sized. Mr Flanagan is getting me a KL1 which I'll be trying on both the E1e and E2e. Very exciting. :D

Hellz

Thanks for the quick replies, you guys. I'll have to cross my fingers and see if I can find an E2e, with the HA finish, this weekend at the gun show. :D ;)

Another vote for the G2Z. With the Ripoffs CO-30 holster, it's replaced my 6P as EDC. :D

You might also look at the E2-HA (not the E2e-HA).
For a $10 savings you'll get the same or better beam with simply a different pocket-clip and lens.
I say same or better because I have an E2-SG and an E2e-HA and I actually prefer the beam on my E2-SG.
I don't know if its the different lens or the very very slightly smaller diameter but my E2 has a slightly more focussed beam.
The HA (hard anodizing for anyone thoroughly confused by now) is a must for everyday carry but for a $10 price difference the other features make it hard to justify.

But you'll get the pyrex lens on the E2e, a definite upgrade over the lexan in the E2.

I wouldn't even consider another bezel with a lexan lens, for two reasons. Number one, they will scratch, no matter how much you baby them. Number two, pyrex has a light transmittivity of about 95%. Lexan's is ~88%. (Info from Craig's LED Museum).

If you're getting a KL1, if you put it on the E2, you'll lose the clip. This is because the clip is attached to the bezel on the E2. No problem if you put the KL1 on the E2e.

Beware, the E2e-SG (smoke gray) only has a lexan lens.

how does the streamlight scorpion compare to the surefires, besides costing less is there a real big difference in performance?

Thanks Guys

Good question. It is hard to tell from product specs alone because surefire uses lumens and streamlight uses candlepower to measure brightness. It would be a lot easier to compare if they were the same unit of measurement. Does anyone know roughly how the light output of the scorpion compares to the surefires?

My partner carries a scorpion. It is fairly bright, no pocket clip though. That is a big negative for me. On a positive note the Surefire KL1 LED head fits on the scorpion.

Looking only at light output they seem very well matched.
The rubber shrouded body is a neat alternative to hard anodizing and the built-in clickie switch is a big plus.
Hardcore SureFire fans will have no respect for you but I think the Scorpion is one of the best values in a lithium powered light.

The Streamlight Scorpion is approximately 60 lumens of light output I believe. It is comparable to the two-cell Surefire lights with the P60 lamp assembly. The Surefire P61 lamp assembly is significantly more powerful than the Scorpion though.

The outputs of the Surefire E2E and the Streamlight Scorpion are pretty similar. To my eye, the Scorpion seems just a tad brighter, but it's not a hugely noticeable difference. This is going to sound like heresy, but I actually prefer the Scorpion to the E2E. It feels more comfortable in my hand and its considerably lower price causes me less anxiety about the possibility of breaking it. The Scorpion is a lot of luminous bang for the buck.

And I was just beginning to like Nathan S... :p
I bet he's the sort of guy who puts a SureFire KL1 on his Scorpion.

Personally, I don't like the Scorpion at all :barf:

I have to say though that in my opinion the Scorpion is better then the Brinkmann LX.

I don't consider the E2e-HA to be expensive and I'm not at all worried about the small chance it could get damaged through EDC carry and use.

Al :)

Ouch! Al, you really know how to hurt a guy. OK, so the E2E doesn't blow me away. However, I really love my E1 and my D3. Doesn't that count for something? ;)
