Best Survival Movies???

What is the best movie you have ever seen which gives info on survival in the woods, eg. "Deliverance", "The Edge", "First Blood" and "Surviving the Game".

I am very interested in this topic because I am a movie fanatic aswell as a survival enthusiast.

The film I get a kick out of is Soldier(starring Kurt Russell). Especially, the scenes that deal with the colonists living on a planet that was turned into an oversized junk yard. The Colonists get their hand on what ever they could salvage, and get it working again. Or use it as spare parts for something else.
Makes any survivalist worth his/her salt, stop and think.

One of the funniest is Never Cry Wolf. Say what you will about Disney films-this
manages to be a very profound nature film
disguised as the misadventures of a Canadian
Biologist stranded in the Great White North
and how he adjusts to his environment.

I liked Man In The Wilderness, starring
Richard Harris.

For psychological aspects of survival, try
The Naked Prey and Lifeboat.

I love the "Never Cry Wolf" movie! The classic has to be "Jeremiah Johnson" especially the part where the fire finally goes and then melts the snow in the tree which puts out the fire.. And of course the "Are you sure you can skin Griz?"

Jeremiah Johnson, starring Robert Redford. The book Crow Killer the saga of liver-eating Johnson by Raymond Thorp, published by Indiana University Press makes for a good read.

I haven't seen it in 25 years, maybe, but "My Side of the Mountain" comes to mind as a life-in-the-woods kind of movie.

"First Blood", of course, for its knife-centric action.

And, let us not forget the ultimate man-triumphs-over-nature show:

Gillgan's Island, where coconuts become automobiles, radios never run out of power or range, and the women make you pies!

"The Edge." It shows how man, with the knowledge, ability, and desire to survive, can and will succeed.

a great thread for a sleepless night.

the movie the "naked prey" really sends home what survival is all about. man in the environment with nothing.

also "nanook of the north" is a well done documentary of eskimos

others that came to mind: pathfinder (finnish)
le dernier combat
(french-luc besson's first movie)

gentleman rogue
( brittish-peter o'toole)

Jeremiah Johnson was great!

The Edge was OK but some of the stuff was a little out there... to bad he didn't have my book

Bat 21 is allright.

Alive is an excellent movie (lots of improvising and real life psychological stresses).

I'll list more as I think of them.

Are You Ready To Learn The Art Of Wilderness Survival?

My favorites are "Naked Prey" & "The Edge". The Classic "Naked Prey" shows the ability of a man to start with nothing & thru cunning, intelligence, endurance & sheer will to overcome all obstacles. "The Edge" shows the value of knowledge of wilderness survival & a good knife.
