This thread has probably been done before, but I'm going to toss it out again, because I am a noobie. We will immediately toss out the tv series Survivor and Lost, also the feature film Castaway with Tom Hanks. There are other obvious ones that you can think of to toss out, but that's up to you.

We will consider military and civilian survival movies.

A cutesy one that you may want to watch with your wife and girlfriends is Six Days And Seven Nights (or was it Seven Days And Six Nights) with Harrison Ford and Anne Heche. It has T&A along with practical/tactical issues.

Some of my favorites are Bat 21 and Flight Of The Intruder (military); also Flight Of The Phoenix and one I believe was called Walking Man (civilian). All involved airplane crashes. You can see a theme here. I detest modern airlines but I love flying in anything from a Piper Cub to a C-47 to a C-130 or a chopper; never been a pilot or jumper, but I love aircraft.

What are your favorites?

Coldwood Flight of the Phoeinix is a great old flick . It was just on the other day . Great , Great , Great . I especially like the scene where the captain uses a type of cartridge to start the motor . When he uses one of the last to :Clear: the motor against the designers adamant contrariness it was electric .

Kevin, you probably saw the original 1965 version with James Stewart. They were flying a C-119 double boom Flying Boxcar. The cartridge, I believe, was a blank 12 gauge shell. In 2004, they redid the movie with Dennis Quaid as the pilot of a C-119. Great stuff, both good movies.

the edge with anthony hopkins. one of my favorites.

That was an excellent movie, especially when he kilt the grizz with a stick.

'Ol WhatesHerName wasn't too shabby either.

In addition, any movie that features a Baldwin brother getting impaled on punji sticks automatically gets a 10 in my book. :)

yea citizen, there were some stretches in the film, i will give ya that. nevertheless, it was a very good film, imo.

There's a good old John Wayne movie, I can't remember the name, where they have to survive in winter conditions after a military plane crash.

Coldwood . I really do like Dennis Quaid . The Big Easy was great. Are you really trying to say it was as good as the original ?

one of my favorites is a documentary on the shackleford expedition..made me want to turn up the heat abd grab a buffalo robe and sit by the fire just to stay warm..its a true story..

Kevin, maybe not as good as the original...James Stewart is hard to beat...the plot is the same, with a few new kinks, probably better photography...definitely worth watching.

And then there's that movie with whatisface, what was the name of it, about a guy out someplace...;)

well everybody already mentioned my favorites, but now I have a list of vids to steal off the web... I mean go rent. :D

Incidentally, "Jeremiah Johnson" was based on a book called "Mountain Man" (I think). An uncle lent it to me when I was like 9... I ate nothing but beef jerky and water for a week, lol.
