Hi all,

I'm new in posting to this forum and the info given looks great here.

I'm looking for a utility survial sheath/knife, I have tried to get the Tekna Wilderness survival knife system with the fishing reel attachment knife, but I'm finding it difficult to find sellers of the knife that will import to the UK. I also once saw a Neito knife that had a bow/arrow type setup that came from the sheath, not the crossbow one but actually a seperate bow.

I'm not to bothered by the quality of the knife but its the sheath systems I love.

I've got the Wilkinson Sword survival knife system with the cut out handle and a few other cheaper survival knives but the sheaths on these seem plain.

Does anyone know where I can get either of the above in the UK or an International seller that will ship, or know of any other sheath systems that have good or unusual survival equipment attached.

Many thanks in advance for advice.

Paul

I adapt my own to the sheath/knife I want to use. Zip ties and pouches work well. Pouches made for multi-tools and large folding knives work well on 4" knives. Larger knives can handle small ammunition pouches. Most of the larger military style sheaths with a pouch won't handle any more than the multi-tool sheath will. Keep in mind that many of the military style sheaths are made with parachuting in mind, where there are extra requirements for retaining the knife.

I've found it more practical to carry the knife in it's sheath and a separate PSK pouch on my belt. It ends up being easier to work around brush and blown-down logs and spreads out the weight. A larger pouch hangs out where it is a magnet for every stray branch.

For sheaths, On Scene Tactical is in Canada and should be easy to access from the UK.

Many thanks for the advice guys and warm welcome, much appreciated.

I agree with DaleW as to carring extra gear seperately, but to be honest. I can get most of my gear in my rucksack, as I use a hennessy hammock, 3 season light weight bag, and cooking/hunting gear and a few bits and bobs. And my Boker knives for gutting and clearance work.

I just like the idea of having a sheath system that I can fish from or use as a make shift bow or similar, more to collect than practical use, can't see me catching a trout on the Tekna knife any time soon LOL.

Just like quirky things I guess, most of the survival accessories i strip out of the knife, I usually dump the knife and carry the bits in the main pack.

From one of my survival knives, there was a little pastic pack that contained a magnifer, fishing hooks, matches and other little bits of use, nothing un-usual but just nicely packed, small and convienent when I'm out and about, without my main sack.

Part of my interest is in the design of the sheaths, as I think more use could be made of them, the two knives mentioned have additions most others haven't thought of, as far as I'm aware. If there are any other interesting sheaths out there, I would be interested to know, or even if the above two can be shipped to the UK, to add to my collection.

Thanks for the advice and info so far guys

Spec-ops survival sheath,I am considering ordering one for my NWA knife,OD green would match the Green micarta handle and can pack a small PSK in the sheath as well ! $48-50 man taking from my knife fund , I really wish I could get a pair of sheath ,one for the BK-7 also.

Knives of Alaska (brand and they have a web site too) have some pretty nice leather combo sheaths; big knife + little knife. No fishing appendage. I like the SOG Seal Pup Elite knife and canvas sheath which can easily carry a heavy SAK (Swiss Army Knife) in the little pouch up front. I use the kydex sheath more if I'm just taking a hike. Generally not fond of kydex sheaths, but this one works well with the knife.

+1 on the SpecOps sheaths. They make one that shows up on eBay with someone who sells a lot of M9s and parts (they bayonet, not the Beretta) and is used by Relentless Knifes that mates their sheath system with the X2 pouch. It's called the X2MS and isn't in their general catalog.

http://www.relentlessknives.com/sheathcatalog.html and scroll down.

Alternatively, there are a number of drop leg systems from HSGI that incorporate a channel that a kydex sheath can be inserted into, including thier EOD system, various styles of magazine carrier, and thier dump pouch. You could certainly put a decent survival kit into any of those, and you'd have your sheath behind it.

I would personally avoid the Tekna. It looks really cool, I'll give it that much, but it isn't secure and it can't be adapted to anything else. I handled one years ago, back when Gutman was importing them- it is trying too hard and is too gimicky. I remember that it had a funny balance, and rattled a lot, and it felt like a good swift wack would reduce it to a pile of scrap plastic. I thought Tekna disappeared years ago. (Those who remember Gutman and the serial numbers on Pumas actually meaning something will know how long ago that was, so maybe things have change.)
