I've seen a lot of expensive custom fixed blades out there. Many are no better than the less expensives ones. They are usually of pretty simple design and often ridiculously expensive.
I just wanted to throw my .02 in, and get a thread started on what everyone thinks are high quality custom tactical knives, with an affordable price tag.
1) Greg Covington combat special. - forged and differentially tempered. (I have 2 of them, and they feel very good in the hand)
2) Larry Harley's Battle Bowies. An amazing deal at under $500. Not forged, but if since it has Larry's name on it, I'm sure it's more than capable. He told me that he hasn't changed the price in 20 years!
(but I guess he will increasing it pretty soon)
(I've only handled the Paragon model, but I've got one on order.)
He uses these for his boar hunts, so they'd better be made right!
