best tactical tanto

That's a tough one. I really like the Tactical Tanto from Cas Iberia. Heat Blued, Carbon Steel blade. Clay tempered. Metal sheath with felt lining for silent removal. Rayskin handle. It's a winner.

Coming at it from a traditional standpoint... i'd say the best "tactical" tanto would be one made to the same specs (shape, size, whatever) as period Japanese pieces. After all, the last time a tanto was a good first, or even second, choice as a low-profile weapon was back then... Not only that, but all tanto were tactical then. A nice custom piece, 12 inches long or less, fitted out as an aikuchi, maybe. That would be relatively easy to carry unnoticed. It's effectiveness depends on a whole slew of variables, of course.

If you're talking about Americanized tanto, or mass produced knives, I think Hanwei's line is pretty good, like Knifeclerk does. If you want Americanized blade shapes, then some of SOG's stuff is pretty cool.

I have an Cold Steel Recon Tanto, with a custom kydex sheath. That's a good tactical Tanto. Used it a lot during my army years, and found it to be a helluva knife... It's an older one carbon steel, black coated. I'm really not into CS anymore so i don't actually know if they still have it, and if it's as good yet.

Fixed blade: Cold Steel 6" stainless Tanto (new-style, with stainless pommel and stainless guard).

Folder: Benchmade 722.

I've seriously taken and keep taking a look at the Fehrman. I just don't have the funds. I did buy a Darrel Ralph folder. According to Darrel, you can stab the tip through steel and cut cheese with the flat blade edge.

my fav tactical folder tanto is a emerson specwar CQC6 or CQC7, for a production knife its a EKI I&I tanto, a 3.9" tanto on a viper frame, not easy to find but i like them.

as far as tantos go i like emersons hands down myself.

For folders, I'll take the Benchmade 12800 from their NRA line. Well shaped tanto tip. Nice recurve. Axis Lock. Aint nothin' wrong with that.
Now if only they would do a release in M2...

Maybe Greg Lightfoot's Predator? I think it's worth taking a look and it has chisel grind proper for righties.

for a fixed blade i'd bet it would be something custom and probably made by bob lum
for a folder it would be the Strider GB

-in my opinion...

I really like my two CS tantos.
The recon Tanto
The Magnum II Tanto

Both beautiful knives.

I also really like the Spyderco Bob Lum tanto. This is a little beauty with a more traditional shape.

If you want cheap but effectice Ka-bar do a tanto blade and I believe Onatario do as well.

rw clark is worth checking out.

Yeah, the Spyderco Lum Fixed Blade is great, but I certainly wouldn't consider this for the top of my list as far as tactical goes. It's not grippy enough. And a bit more length wouldn't hurt any. But I love mine; I think I'll carry it today.

whats the best tactical tanto out there?
This is way too general of a question. What qualities are you interested in? Cutting, stabbing, slicing, or toughness and what size are you interested in. Are you interested in a folder? Do you prefer a more traditional look. What SIZE are you interested in. Do you want or dislike a chisel grind? etc. etc.
We can help you, but we need more info.

i like the busse public defender (pics at the badmojo site)
