Best Tanto bladed folder for EDC?

Hi folks, my first post here. I'm currently looking at getting a very nice folder for EDC and am looking for recommendations. My only for sure want in the knife is a Tanto blade (I just like those the best) around 3.5" or more. Would also prefer an Axis Lock and no blade safety. So far, I'm looking at the Benchmade Presidio and HK14255 Snody Axis (both 154CM). Also the SOG Vulcan Tanto (SanMai VD-10 w/ 420J2 Laminate which I don't read much on) and X-Ray Vision (VG-10). In terms of design, I really like the BM HK Snody Axis (despite the HK logo on it), but function over form for me. I did have a chance at holding the SOG Vulcan (normal blade) and was very impressed (I should also mention I own the SOG Seal Team Elite that I like a lot). If I'm missing something, please let me know a recommendation. I'd like to spend less than $150.

Welcome to the forums!!!

I'm rather partial to the Benchmade products (have quite a few and they make excellent 'user' knives).
I'd recommend going to a knife shop or a knife show where you can handle the knives your interested in. It's amazing how a knife may look great in a pic, but doesn't feel good in the hand. (Very user-specific)
Pick the one that best suits your needs and best fits your hand (and pocket).

Good luck and welcome again to BF!

Regards,
Mike

I would seriously consider the Nitrous D2 Stryker, Ive heard a ton of positive feedback on them.

the cold steel recon1 tanto folder is pretty sweet. seen my buddy put his threw some nasty stuff.

the CS recon 1 , tanto, has some kind of axis lock, full liners, g10 scales, aus8a blade steel, damn strong , and its not that expensive
next to buck 110

ive got a BM nitrious stryker and love it and a BM mini grip and love it, both have the tanto blade but if you really want an axis lock the griptilian is the way to go. and you said a 3.5" blade so id say go with the fullsize grip, its a great knife and it can take a beating!

If you want a true Tanto edge style, have Tom Krein re-grind the knife you get.

Thanks for all the thoughts, everyone! After more thought, I'm narrowing it down to the HK14255 or SOG Vulcan Tanto. Once again, I've handled the SOG Vulcan (full VG-10 steel), not the Tanto version and it really oozes quality. Very very nice. However, the Tanto version has a SanMai blade made of VG-10 and 420J2 steel. I know nothing about this, but know the 420J2 is considered a softer steel after a google search.

Can anyone comment on the 14255 blade vs. the SanMai of the Vulcan Tanto? I'd consider the full VG-10 non-Tanto Vulcan if the blade is better than the SanMai?

You know what? I couldn't decide, so I just ordered both from New Graham! Well, both meaning the SOG Vulcan Tanto and HK14255. I'll give you an update when they arrive.

the laminated steel is stronger overall , the 420j2 is there to offer some plus in flexibility,so that the middle steel can be hardened more, and even if with vg10 as core is not that important, some corrosion resistance

Take a look at Blackwater/Benchmade Bob Lum Tanto. 4 inch 154CM, Titanium framelock

The CRKT M16 Big Dog is a pretty stout folder with a Tanto Config....

Take a look at Emerson knives.

Some will say the chisel edge isn't good for EDC, but I carry a CQC7-HD all the time.

Welcome to the Forum.

Have you looked at the Benchmade 940? It is a reverse tanto. 3.4in blade, s30v steel, and an axis lock. It is one of the best BMs IMO.
