I've got a sweet camping spot that is six miles in, with lots of deadfall and walkaround. Lots of thorny vines in the way. Of course , I don't want to carry anything too heavy. thin machete?

A longer blade sure helps with cutting thorny branches.
Another hand tool to use is a pair of hand clippers. You can snip branches so quick and easy. I use a pair for clearing trails of black berry
thorn branches on the farm. I have even used a weed trimmer with a blade instead of the line trimmer.

Hand loppers and a weed whip is what we use for brushing while doing trail work in the backcountry.
