I am looking for a good throwing Hawk for my 12 year old son. While I have heard the Cold Steel Hawks spoken of fairly highly, and they are the price range I was looking at, I was not sure that they would not be heavier than he could handle effectively. Is there a smaller throwing hawk that is thought highly of?

Thanks,

I think a trail hawk would be fine fro a 12 year old. It is a light hawk and with the short shaft it is a great thrower. And a good all around tool to boot. For the price I don't think it can be beat. Especially as an introductory hawk that he will abuse a bit as a thrower.

my 10 year old throws a cold steel frontier hawk w/ 3in cut off the handle. Its very light, and he really enjoyed customizing it the way he wanted. I have a frontier hawk and a trailhawk, I think they are both light enough, but the frontier hawk is definatly lighter.

My son started throwing mouse hawks when he was about 8. By the time he was 10, he was throwing a Trail Hawk, Fort Turner and a VTAC.

I'd set him up with a Trail or Frontier hawk. You'll need to cut a few inches off the stock handle.
