Best to check before bidding

I saw a 110 that the seller said had been in storage for 25 years. I looked but the pictures were so blurry that you can't make out any details or the tang stamp. Thinking this might be one with the older steel (440C or 425M), I sent a message to the seller asking about the stamp. He replied that it's a / ('93).

So much for him having had it stored for 25 years!:thumbdn: Buyer Beware.

Alway Beware of the write-up. Good advice Dave.
I alway prefer clear pictures so I can decide for myself what I'm looking at and then ask specific questions which I find alway get an honest answer...I've not not been lied to once on a specific question.

Now if you rely on their writeup you trust that they remember correctly or did some research and verified their comments....not always wise as Dave points out. g

I let the seller know that his knife was 16 years old and not at least 25 as he stated in the listing. So far he hasn't changed it and he has some bids now. Might bite him in the rear if he gets the wrong buyer.

it does no good to share information with most sellers
they dont want to hear any thing not what they think

that said i have let sellers know and wow they correct the listing!
some have even emailed thanks!

many i will bid on even!
but some are the myob blelife
as to wording in a listing
defineable facts are one thing
words that have fuzzy meanings you should think on- that
they may not mean the same to you as them
VGc old useable antque collectable rare ect
implyed qualitys are another and sellers have always had lisence there
when looking, read a listing like a used car sales man is selling it
ASK questions save the answer
if it is a fair amount of money use your credit card via pay pal
you can contest easy with the CC but not with PP
you should avoid haveing bidders regreat

I've seen similar descriptions repeatedly from parasite sellers who traffic in quick profits without knowledge of their products. They'll say most any story and to protect their deal, post blury photos, offer no insurance but 20+$ for shipping. There should be a better policing of those ranks.DM

i think that since sellers can not leave neg feed back that it has gotten better
and the star system lets you comment on parts of it..
the ones to watch have very low stars on one or more things..
remember no one can please every one ...

Dave, Its very easy to please a lot of people by just being informed about your product and stating the truth. We do it all the time on this site and are not even selling.I buy form
Larry O.all the time w/o a picture just a item description and I find he's very accurate and has a very good return policy. No hidden charges, its all up front. So, its not hard.
The truth is some people don't want to play that way unless forced.Thats what gives it a bad name.DM

What always [irks, annoys, amuses - choose one] me is the guy who says he bought his [110, 119, whatever] from the [Fort Buck BX, Dick's, Cabelas] back in 1960/1970/1980/1990 and has had it ever since...

...And it has a date code on it from 3 or 4 years ago...

I completely understand that old age affects your memory (personal experience!), but claims like these are a bit much... :grumpy:

yes dave i have bought from larry o jest because it was him..
and would not have gotten or paid that from any one else..
Larry sells for other collectors as a service and is who i would
have disperse my collection for my wife if some thing happened to me..

i can understand a seller who makes an honest mistake,
and not believe what some one else says..
as recently shown there can be some issue with
what some feel is common knowledge
in this case.. NOW
i would simply send him a link to the
buck site with the date codes..
other wise i have now learned it is easer to jest
say oh well ... let the buyer beware..
an informed collector knows better or will learn
i have passed up deals and gotten poor value
due to my lack of knowledge so yes
i know that feeling in the pit of the tummy
i only worried for the non-collector buyer who is giving a gift
as some one gave me what they were told was a
rare buck knife ... yes it had a nice looking buck on it ...:o

I agree with 334dave that its not worth the agravation to inform sellers of improper description. I have sent question of tang stamp 4-5 times on knives described as 60's-70's era knives. The pictures show a knife with full radiused edges and ocheebee wood. Invariably it is at mid to late 90's knife and when informed they either argue or say thank you and dont change anything. I try to make it clear I'm not a Know it all and just trying to help them from getting a butt chewing from a collector.
Also what DM said on another thread, "caveat emptor"

I've had the same experience with some, but most seem receptive. One was a lady that was listing a 110 as made in 1955. She based that on a name and the "1955" that someone had hand engraved on one of the bolsters with a vibra etcher. She actually cancelled the listing and relisted with the year that I sent her.

Dang,Plumber--you found one w/ integrity.A rare commodity these days which still commands respect.DM

Dave,I have already given instructions to my wife along these same lines.
As I believe he's trustworthy.I'm proud to know we have :thumbup:this caliber of men and ladies in our ranks.I think most of us could name several who traffic this forum whom the shoe fits.DM

Well, that thing sold for $73! The seller never changed the listing and left it saying that he'd had it in storage for over 25 years although I let him know that it was only 16 ('93) years old.

I just wonder if the person that won it has a clue. No way I'd pay that for a 16 year old plain 110. I just paid $35 for a brand new in the box 110V made in 1989.

I'm going to watch his feedback and see what happens.

Link it...let's see who it is...

I noticed the other day that there is a seller with the username of not2sharp...I wonder how many people think that he is knot2sharp... :(

There were 23 bids and 10 were from the eventual winner. I figure he thought he was geting something special or just got "bidding fever".

any thing you want direct is advertiseing
"Buck 111 Limited Edition" and the
"Handles are Laminated Desert Hardwood."
it is a standard idaho stamp 111 with obichee
item 280374458375 is his current listing

go figure..
