I have seen many tool rest designs shown on the forum recently and enjoy looking ar so of the articulating rests that have been devised. Most look solid and versatile but are usually expensive and take several adjustments to align in r elation to the contact wheel. I borrowed a simple design from a TAG grinder I saw which I think

the nicest looking one i have seen (i have not tried one) is the r.a.t. arm work rest from northridge.

I can't see your picts, but I recently got the Beaumont Metals Articulated work rest and it is built like a tank, very adjustable. Worth every penny of $290

Sorry, But I cannot get a photo to post from my imgur account. I used to do this all the time. I will try something else. Larry

i see one pic now with a large red contact wheel. earlier today i could not see any pic at all.

Being a noob at this....but have built my own grinder. Both Avigil and Larryz10 have really small "decks" to their grinder rests. I have a fairly small rest and I look at other ones that are wayyyy bigger and I want one of those now that I have ground a number of blades. How do you decide the dimensions of your rest.

That’s cool Adam. Looks like the rest the razor guys use. I guess you pivot off the bar as you grind the belly of the blade. Do you hold you blade at90 or do hold at a angle?

I hold the flat of the edge level then pivot along the curve to the tip.

You can have more then 1 rest.
I have the standard Beaumont articulated work rest for most grinding, now the rod rest as well as a much longer rest for when i need it.

This is one of the best ones in the market imho... Wilmont

I installed magnets on the table base so I can swap out the tables for different sizes, jigs, etc
