Hello,

I want to make my first own full tang knife soon and I am planning on using a somewhat translucent material for the handle. I was thinking about G10 but I dont want to use the jade one.
Does anyone know where I can buy G10 in other colors than jade?

I want to skeletonize the tang, so the light can shine through.

Which translucent materials do you guys use for your handles?

Thank you!
Cheers

I see white and gold translucent G10. There is also a handle material called C-Tek that is a colored resin poured into an aluminum honeycomb structure. It comes in a variety of colors and produces translucent scales.

Not sure if this applies to your needs, but I have seen some examples of people dying jade G10, and it seems possible to retain some level of translucency. I think I recall seeing a Spyderco Smock in jade dyed with Rit dye's emerald green somewhere (YouTube?). Just a thought.

Ruby red, Ghost Jade,

Sand Ghost

G10 in it's natural form is the translucent type you are talking about....

People get the colors they want by adding colored liners behind it.

Some makers color the backside with colored markers, too

Thank you all for your comments. Thank you navman navman for posting some links.
I really like Ultem, since it seems like, it would let through the most light. But unfortunately it only comes in one color.
I will probably go with G10, just have to decide which color to pick.

C-Tek is definitely sweet too, but not really what I'm going for.

There are some amazing custom resin scale makers out there who could mix you up almost anything you can think of. From completely clear to any shade of opaque color. A couple off the top of my head who I’ve used and had great experience with: woodbymohler, 285woodworks, voodooresins

There is a seller of Ultum on eBay that encourages buyers to ask questions. He sells and cuts it to your required size. I just sent him a request for how to machine/cut/polish it. I'll update you if he responds.

Unfortunately he didn't respond. At some point I'm going to buy an piece and experiment with it.

Sheephorn will go translucent when polished. I put green liners under these:

Black seems to intensify the natural color of the sheephorn.
