Best two way radio

Looking for the best two way radios. Would like to use them with my son for hikeing, hunting, fishing etc. Who makes the best? Seen Midlands 16 mile radius for $25-$60 a pair. Any good?

Think of it this way all range claims are bunk. Range is highly dependent on terrain and radio frequency.

Inexpensive FRS radios might get a mile, more in a flat grassland, less if hilly and woodsy.
