Me & my son just got back from seeing the movie Resident Evil, & the way that girl uses her twin Khukuris is amazing she uses then alot. an INFI Khukuris would be the best Zombie killer ever!:D or a couple of FBMs.

havent seen the movie but Khuks are excellent choppers. They look nasty as well.

That film was Bollucks!!!!!!
Okay, I didn't actually see it, but you CAN'T swing them around the way she did!.....
Now, because she was super strong in the movie, she might have been able to move them around quickly, but you wouldn't. Not quickly enough to defend yourself against an armed attacker (hopefully they're unarmed.). You'd have to have something much thinner for defensive use.
May I suggest this isn't the best forum for this discussion?

Several people have indicated that they would like an INFI Khukuri, thats why I mentioned it & we have whisky threads & beer threads & threads not specificly about Busse knives, but things that HOGS like & like to do!

Khukuris come in all sizes weights and thickness.
They are handmade.
There are various models as light and fast as the fastest bowies.
I just bought a new Bura "Snake" model at 15 inches overall and only 11 ounces.
You can't get much faster than that.

Gurhka's have been using Khukuri's against armed attacker for a long long time.
Khukuri's and it's predecessor the Kopis have been used as weapons for thousands of years.

Yes, I am aware of all that, but I think she swings them around with the speed of a couple of wakazashis!
I didn't mean to imply that the Khukri wasn't a formidable weapon, just that the scenes were unrealistic, at least for a normal strength human being. IMO, when speed is necessary, a traditional Khukri is not an ideal weapon.

you can do close quarters defense by turning them quickly on their center of gravity. they have enough weight that only using the tip in a center rotation can still provide weighted momentum to the blow. buuuuuuuuuut ya... they certainly aren't pocket knives as far as speed goes...

you just have to develop a system based around the use of the weapon for your given task (in this case rabid zombies), rather then applying it to a pre-existing system meant for a different size and type of weapon.

and hey, you never know... they may have been a thin hardened core with alluminum sides. that would make for a weapon thats sharp and fast

woah woah woah . . . slow down a second.

Are you saying that a hollywood movie's portrayal of combat is not realistic?

Next thing you'll be telling me is that the scene in Batman Forever, where Batman catches the rocket and climbs in, is unrealistic . . .

;)

I can swing my 22oz Gurka Kukri's about as fast as any other fighting knife I have. What hurts is when you dont connect and over extend your arm.

Khuks in the right hands can be swung pretty darn fast and they hit like freight trains because of their weight.

The Khuks in my opinion are very formidable edged weapons.

I have not seen the movie but have seen pictures of those Khuks. They are huge and are definately not going to be fast and nimble. I am sure Hollywood speeds up those movements because well...... its Hollywood :D

I have a HI Ultimate Fighter Khuk (like a standard, but double edged and great thrusting point)... Really really nice, and it makes me wish Busse made one... anyhow, it was perfect except the sheath was not too cool, so I sent it off to Rainwalker a few days ago for some new pants... when i get it back, I will post pics...

Hi's Kobras are certainly fast. Tora kuks are lighter per inch than HI's and their Tora Sirupates seem fairly fast to me, compared to an AK for example.

I think the main point of this thread was the idea of a Busse Khukuri.

And I like that idea very, very, very much so you can continue with your logistics argument but I would rather test it in fact.

That being said I will preorder 2 a lefty and a righty

What's all this crap about fighting knife anyway. The last thing you are likely to do is fight with any big knife anyway. Khukuri's are excellent chopping prying tools and can double as a fighting weapon if need be much like a bowie knife.

While a heavy khukuri may be tough to swing around or more likely stop the swing if you miss, a lighter khukuri such as a sirupati and others can be swung quite fast and make very formidable weapons. The Ghurka's used them in hand to hand combat and they average 5.5 ft in height. The typical khukuris they used were about 15-16 inches long and about 3/8 inch thick. Stick tangs made them light and forward balanced.

Merrils Marauders also carried Khukuri's as well as bolos and bowies.

But in general these things were used to build shelters and homes, dig, cut down crops, kill livestock and possible defense against animals if need be.

I can't believe no one has mentioned zombie fighting.

Never mind him Tim, the point of your thread was "we need Busse Khukris", not "hollywood's portrayal of combat is realistic". I agree a full on Khukri would be cool, I don't think I would replace any of my favorite big choppers, but it would be nice to have one.

+1

Bring on the Busse khuk, also known as chopper nirvana. :D

Progunner, that slightly recurved & clipped FBM that Skunk had on his ganza would be a great blade to have, if no khukri could be had!

I'm +1 on a Busse Khukuri.

If it works for the British Gurkhas, then I want one, but with a "Busse Combat" logo on it!
