My bk9 plays the roll of wood processing and my bk16 plays the roll of general camp utility.

What tasks are best suited for the bk14?

Edc.
Stand it upright behind your wallet and it disappears.
Another nice way to carry it is canted (tip down/forward) on your hip.

Just thread some paracord through the stock sheath holes to "frame" the sheath with a rectangle on each side.
This can be with one continuous piece if you make a bowline and thread that loop through a hole and use that as your first anchor and thread the holes accordingly.

Bowline shown in bottom right corner. The tight loop passing over the single string is the loop of the bowline. The single line that was passed through the loop came through the top right hole then down through the bowline loop and headed to the left.

Excellent for EDC. Also pretty good for opening small packages and peeling apples. I guess that's all part of EDC. But seriously, it's amazing how versatile this blade is in the right hands.

The 11, 14 and 24 are edc perfection, just add scales. Well suited for most daily tasks whether carried around the neck, or on a belt or pocket. Ive mostly carried on the belt either horizontal or vertical. Ive also carried in my right front pocket or side pocket in cargo pants. You might not get it until you own one, or three. Do yourself a favor and try one out.

I have one and have used it on day hikes and loved it. I've tried it at work but it's just not as convenient as one of my folders. I guess maybe I've answered my own question. It's a day hike knife...

I mostly use mine to cut stuff. It does that pretty well. It's a pretty terrible flashlight though.

When the Bk16 was released, it usurped many of the tasks the Bk14 performed.

Before then, the Bk9+Bk14 was the combo de jour.

Day hikes, backpacking, companion blade, EDC, neck knife. The 16 is great but it isn't a neck knife. The 14 is great when you are doing something and don't need much knife. I bring mine fishing a lot.

Thanks for clearing that up. Never could find where to put the batteries!

I've tried edc but it's much more convenient to carry a folder instead. That and the coating doesn't help with alot of edc tasks for my daily activities. I'm realizing that it fills the same roll at the bk16 for my needs. I'll just have to choose between the 2 b4 I go on my next trip.

Yeah I'm with you. it's a Great day hike buddy.

The 14 is my primary edc, as one hand folders are illegal here. It's small enough to fit into my front right pocket and I use it daily. The 14 punches way above its weight and from opening letters to batoning and wood processing does it all:)

My edc is a folder, but I keep a modded 14 (stripped flats with a forced black patina and a straight clip point) in my bag for "just in case." Around the sheath I've wrapped a bunch of bank line which keeps it pretty handy.

I love the d2 version for edc. Just use the tdi clip from Kabar and get the scales and just clip it to your pocket like you would a folder. Works great. Do the same thing with my 11 as well although I don't have scales for that yet.
