I am almost always using a sebenza or a SNG but it recently sold and traded most of my expensive knives to try something new. While in between knives I went to my local sports store and picked up a cheep spyderco Persistence. For 30 bucks this is one heck of a knife, I may get a few. So it got me thinking what would be a value fixed blade to accompany my new persistence?

Condor?

Hands down the best value I have found in a fixed blade carry knife is the Izula! There are so many different ways to talor it to your style it's remarkable. With scales, without scales, paracord wrapped, unwrapped, neck carry, belt carry, pocket carry, and so much other stuff! I've owned. quite a few fixed blades but never carried them. I just can't put this one down. I love it.

Obviously the best value is going to be the Mora knives, but they have their limits. The Condor Hudson Bay looks very nice as well, but I don't have any experience with it.

What are you going to be doing with this knife? Will you use it for bush crafting? Splitting wood? Self defense? Cleaning game? Breaking down boxes? Is it going to go in your BOB, your vehicle kit, or will you carry it everyday? Only when your camping? How important is a quality sheath? What type of sheath are you looking for?

I'll beable to give you a better answer if you give us a little more info :)

Mora carbon steel fixed blades are pretty fantastic; and they are a steal for 15 bucks. Buy one and you will know what I mean.

Cold Steel machetes have also been great tools. Dull from the factory certainly -- but basically indestructible.

Also -- I have been very pleased with the various offerings from Kukrihouse.com

Their fit and finish is not as good as H. Imports -- but you can't beat them for the money.

Condor, Becker, RAT Cutlery and the R Murphy Canadian Belt Knife (18 bucks)
I picked up my CBK yesterday with zebrawood scales, brass pins, beautifully convexed 1095 blade with a crappy microbevel that I buffed out. Great ergo, nice jimping, allaround a perfect blade for camp cooking and skinning. The Cold Steel Finn Bear and Mora are also really good cheap fixed blades. Tramontina's 12 incher would be a great choice at 6 dollars as well.
