I am getting married in July and I am on the lookout for a good quality under $30 or $40 folding blade pocket knife to give for groomsman gifts.
I was also thinking about having them engraved with their initials.
Any and all suggestions would be great!

I'd think a small slip joint. Some can be engraved and they can all carry them in their tuxs.

Or the Byrd version of the spyderco dragonfly 2. I got my dad one in stainless and had it engraved.

Congrats on getting married.

CRKT Swindle is 5$ over it's a quite classy modern version of a Swayback with ikbs/framelock. Hopefully it'll be back in stock soon.

Alox SAKs, like a Cadet, Farmer or Pioneer.

Go for the Leek if you can, but fitting with your criteria I'd go with one of the many alox Victorinox models or the Buck Colleague/Scholar/Nobleman line. They're cheap enough to fit, engraving included, into your budget and they have flat steel handle scales.

thank you all for the great suggestions! I have been checking them all out and like them all, tough decision really like the kershaw leek and victorinox SAK's which will probably see the best use.

I'm hoping to get this on Father's Day....good flat sides perfect for engraving. A.G Russel Funny Folder

+1 on the Leek and Alox SAK suggestions. The framelock Leeks have stainless steel handles, which should engrave well. The colored Leeks have anodized aluminum scales, so the engraved text may have a bit more color contrast. The Alox SAKs have a little flat area on the back (opposite side from the shield) that seems intentionally put there for engraving.

You have to go with a traditional for something like this. Case Sodbuster Jr. is well under thirty. And Queen Cutlery Country Cousin is right around 40 bucks.

Kershaw leek/shallot? Ideal for engraving...

Exactly what I was thinking. Very classy, and the smooth handles are great for engraving. Shoot Kershawguy a message and see if he has stuff not on his website or on the way (he often does)

Exactly what I was thinking, though I leaning towards the cadet personally. It's a very nice and classy knife, comes in multiple colors too though my understanding is that some are limited edition and will fetch a premium. The silver I find to have a classy look, and the traditional red color looks gorgeous in my opinion from the pictures of it I've seen online. Can't go wrong with a swiss army knife everyone needs one in my opinion.

And just to throw it in there they do make an alox swiss army knife money clip which is their standard small knife designed as a money clip. Though personally I wouldn't go that route as I think it be too annoying to remove your money/cards to use it as once you start carrying a knife you start finding you use it a lot more than you expect to make life easier. So I think it be a bit of an annoyance.

another rec for the Cadet/Pioneer. Slimmer than the Farmer, which I think matters for the OP's intended use. And the silver would be a perfect fit to match a black-tie affair.

Another vote for the Kershaw Leek! Congrats on your upcoming wedding!
